St Francis de Sales (1567 – 1622)
St François de Sales, seventeenth-century bishop of Geneva and Roman Catholic saint, was born at Thorens into a Savoyard noble family in 1567. A personal crisis in 1587 led him to dedicate his life to God. François came to the conclusion that whatever God had in store for him was good, because God is love. This faithful devotion to the God of love influenced the rest of his life and his teachings.
