Ramana Maharshi (1879 – 1950)
Ramana Maharshi is considered as perhaps the greatest twentieth century Indian spiritual teacher, specifically of Advaita or non-dualism. After a profound reflection on the nature of death when he was seventeen he realized enlightenment. He spent the rest of his life near the sacred mountain of Arunachala, in Tiruvannamalai, Madras Province (now Tamil Nadu).
