Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179)
Born in Germany, became an anchorite at 14 and later prioress of the nunnery. Had visions and was told by her confessor to write them down. These became “Scivias” - a report of 26 visions that would sum up Christian doctrine on the history of salvation. As well as writing other visionary/philosophical works, she also wrote songs and non-visionary works. She travelled extensively, preaching.
