Angela of Foligno (c.1248-1309)

Angela lived in Foligno, near Assisi. In her late 30s she underwent a moral crisis. Subsequent to this the death of her husband, sons and mother all within a year was seen as a sign by Angela to embrace a life of poverty, and after a pilgrimage to Rome in 1291 she gave away most of her property. Her book Memoriale and a collection of her letters, Instructiones, are usually published together under the title, Il Libro della  Beata Angela da Foligno.
