Foolishness

God is not seen except by blindness, nor known except by ignorance, nor understood except by fools.  Meister Eckhart

The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  St. Paul

The old man in his days will not hesitate to ask an infant of seven days about the place of life, and he will live.  Gospel of Thomas

The Sage sees and hears no more than an infant sees and hears.  Lao-tzu

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men.  St. Paul

The soul itself often feels rather idiotic, and wonders, if it described its state to any sensible person, it would be told to go and do something useful and not moan.  Dom John Chapman

What can the listener think of me? Is it not the only conclusion he could come to, that I am absolutely, as well as relatively, crazy!  Nisargadatta

An ignorant man is bewildered on hearing the spiritual Truth, but a wise man, on hearing the Truth, withdraws his consciousness within himself, even though he appears like a fool outwardly.  Ashtavakra Gita

A state of alert naivety is required.  D.E. Harding
