Reflection 54

Welcome!

Big Mind

Looking at my hand I find that my hand and my thoughts about my hand are happening together here in awareness. Though I distinguish between my hand and my thoughts, I find no way of really separating the one from the other. I am attending to both aspects of experience in the same space of attention.

The same is true regarding my thoughts about anything. My thoughts about a star in the night sky and the appearance of that star are both happening here in consciousness. My thoughts – and feelings – about someone I love, or someone I find difficult, are here – along with that person. Everything is here. Yet at the same time I’m free of everything here – since essentially I am this empty (to be filled) spacious awareness.

Although I find no boundary dividing my mind from my world, for the sake of communication with others I label some things in consciousness as psychological and inside me and others as physical and outside me. But it’s all actually, from my point of view, within me – within consciousness.

Just as I find no boundary to my field of vision – my Single Eye - and no boundary to my field of sensation, so I find no boundary to my field of thought and feeling, to my mind.

Is this true for you?

My mind is big, at large, uncontained, one with my world. There is nothing at centre to which I can attach it or inside which I can contain it. When I imagine my mind as small, as inside something here separate from the world there – then all manner of problems arise from this mistake.

When I see that my mind is at large and one with the world, I am healed.

How truly wonderful.

Regards,
Richard
