The Real Gift
If we practise the Beatific Vision in order to reap one day its advertised benefits - peace, joy, freedom, creativity, and the rest - we aren't likely to garner a rich harvest. Whereas if we do so for its own sake and with no arrière-pensée, because living from the amazing Truth has got to be better right now and to make more sense than living from the socially-laid-down pack of lies, we are much more likely to gain all the unsolicited and unimaginable gifts that await us. In fact it is God Himself, not His bulging haversack of gifts, that is the real Gift, bestowed with infinite generosity. (Douglas Harding. Article: Third Way)
